CKPC organizes one High Table Dinner each semester, allowing college students to experience formal social events and engage in a theme speech or demonstration promoting one or more of the seven competencies of college education. Many students volunteer to serve in High Table Dinner tasks, thereby gaining experiences in the organization of a large-scale formal event. Please refer to this page for dress code.
CKPC follows “High Table Dinner 2.0” process (the total number of attendees is about 170~200):
- A reception will be held in the inner courtyard at 6 pm, with a thematic backdrop for students and guests to take formal photos
- Formal entrance of guests begins at 7 pm. During the dinner, the guests at the high table will be served by specially trained students from the college, while the other students will enjoy the buffet dinner
- Before or after the dinner, the guest speaker will give a keynote speech or live demonstration (about 30 minutes, including Q&A)
- After the dinner, all the students moved to the Athena Square for the theme party

This is a conscious choice after balancing expense, food experience, and alternative options. For a full-service dinner, the extra service fees increase the per capita spending by 30% or so. On the other hand, our experiences showed that the vendor’s table service typically does not match that of a upscale restaurant. The food quality and quantity often times suffer. With a buffet dinner and without the extra service fees, we are able to spend more on food quality and variety.
We can also use the remaining funds to rent a backdrop, which gives great photographic experiences for students in formal attire. Additional leftover funds may also be used on other college activities, further enriching student’s overall experiences.
In November 2023, Macau’s “Alcohol Control Law” became effective. It prohibits serving alcoholic beverages to anyone under 18. Since the College typically has students under 18 participating in High Table Dinner, wine is not served in order to be compliant with the law [reference link].
