何謂住宿式書院?

澳門大學推行「四位一體」教育模式,包括專業教育、通識教育、研習教育和社群教育。住宿式書院是該模式的融合平台,並聚焦社群教育,院生通過群體生活和同儕教育,發揮最大潛力,成為全人。

書院與宿舍到底有什麽區別呢?

一句話,澳大書院是有教育功能的溫暖大家庭,宿舍則只是個居所。

在書院,不同年級和專業的學生一起生活學習,組織活動,參與小組項目。

書院的人際關係緊密,不少學生更建立團隊,一起創業,打造夢想。

聽說書院的硬件設施比一般宿舍好,是嗎?

澳大10所書院,佔了校園五分之一地方。每所書院有相若的基本設施,包括容納200多人的飯堂,健身房,音樂室,洗衣房,講演廳或多功能室,小組學習室,書院課室等。

學生是二人一間房,兩個房間共用一個衛生間(更多…)。每個樓層都有小廚房。

有些書院還有其特色設施,例如電影院,教學廚房,聊天室,桌球室,休閒遊戲室,創業空間等(更多…)。

書院的環境衛生等有專門部門負責監控嗎?

澳大的安健及環境事務辦公室 (HSEO) 負責協助設立和實施健康、安全和環保之政策及指引,以確保本校完全符合本地的法律法規;監督並確保工作流程和程序,使其在遵守政策和指引之情況下執行;對不當之情況作出報告和建議,並協助實行健康,安全和環境之改善。

書院有什麽教育理念?

書院除了是學生宿舍,更是澳門大學“社群教育”的平台。在書院,院長、副院長、和駐院導師跟學生同宿共膳,透過系統課程和體驗式學習活動,與學院相輔相成,發揮協同育人的優勢。

澳大推行“四位一體”全人教育模式,社群教育是其中一個重要元素。除了輔助學生的專業學習,更讓院生在實際生活中磨練,培養高尚品格,提升學生的七項勝任力,其中包括服務精神,溝通、領導、和解決問題等軟能力。

同一專業的同學,都住一個書院嗎?

澳大的書院與學院是并行的,每位本科生同時屬於一個書院和自己專業的學院。

爲了鼓勵跨學科交流,澳大以隨機方式,把學生分配到不同書院。各書院有來自各個專業的學生,和混合本地生、内地生及外地生(包括國際生)。院生們一起生活學習,促進不同文化的交流共融。

書院生活對學生的學業有什麼影響呢?

從新鮮人進入書院那天起,書院學長就開始帶他們熟悉澳大的教學資訊系統和選課,適應英語授課。導師則介紹自主學習方法、時間分配等,讓他們更快完成從中學到大學的過渡。

個別有需要的同學,書院安排課餘學長共習,針對性地提升短板。來自學院的教授,以書院為平台開設講座和小組輔導。部份有興趣的學生,更可以參與教授的研究項目,為將來升學打下基礎。

我家就在氹仔,爲什麽一年級要住書院呢?

書院是澳大“社群教育”的平台。通過群體生活,院生可以學會與人相處,參加與投入活動,學會跟不同人合作。

成為學生領袖的院生,更參與活動策劃與主持,磨練自己,並闊充視野,培育胸襟。

書院同學可以幫助照顧較内向的學生嗎?

每個澳大書院都有書院學生助理和助教,他們活躍於書院樓層,以學長身份輔導新生,包括課程安排,選科,學習方法,校園生活等。

他們又定期組織活動,促進院生友誼,豐富生活氣氛。一些書院更舉辦“師友分享”,讓學院教授直接跟新生交流和提供咨詢。

書院的駐院導師,從一年級起輔助和追蹤院生,又跟大學學生輔導中心合作,關顧有需要的學生(包括情緒支援、心理輔導、生涯規劃等)。

What is Residential College?

University of Macau’s “4-in-1” educational model includes disciplinary education, general education, research and internship education, and community and peer education. Residential College is the integrative platform for the model, focusing on community and peer education and allowing students to realize their full potential and become whole persons.

What are the key differences between a Residential College and a dormitory?

A Residential College serves like a warm family with educational functions, whereas a dormitory is just a residence.

In a Residential College, students of different years and majors live and study together.  They also organize activities and participate in group projects.

Within the collegial atmosphere, many students build teams to start their own businesses and realize their dreams.

 

I heard that the hardware facilities of a Residential College are better than a dormitory. Is that true?

The 10 colleges of the University of Macau take up one-fifth of the campus.  Each college has similar basic facilities, including a dining hall that can accommodate more than 200 people, a gym, a music room, laundry rooms, a lecture hall or multi-function room, group study rooms, and college classrooms.  Each student room accommodates two students, and two student rooms share a bathroom (…details). There is a pantry on every floor.  Some colleges also have their own special facilities, such as movie rooms, teaching kitchens, chat rooms, billiard rooms, leisure or game rooms, and entrepreneurial spaces (…details).

Is there a special department responsible for monitoring the environmental and sanitary conditions of the college?

UM’s Office of Health, Safety and Environmental Affairs (HSEO) is responsible for assisting in the establishment and implementation of health, safety and environmental protection policies and guidelines to ensure that the University fully complies with local laws and regulations.  Regular water quality tests are conducted at various campus locations (including Residential Colleges) and the results are published on the website (link).

What is the educational philosophy of Residential Colleges?

The Residential College is not only a student dormitory, but also a platform for the “Community and Peer Education” of the University of Macau. College Master, Associate Master, and Residential Fellows live together with the college students.  The University of Macau promotes the “4-in-1” whole-person education model.  Community and Peer Education is a key elements. In addition to assisting students in their academic studies, it also allows college students to cultivate their noble character, enhances seven competencies, and develop soft skills such as communication, leadership, and problem solving skills.

Do students of the same major live in the same college?

At the University of Macau, the faculties and colleges are parallel organizations.  Each undergraduate student belongs to a faculty and a college simultaneously.  To encourage interdisciplinary exchanges, the University of Macau assigns students to different colleges through a balanced random allotment and application process.  Each college has students from all majors, and a mixture of local students, mainland students and non-local students (including international students). The college students live and study together, thereby enhancing the exchange and integration of different cultures.

What impact does college life have on students' academic studies?

From the day freshmen enter a college, the college’s senior students help them familiarize with UM’s information system and course selection, and adapt to English teaching. The Residential Fellows introduce independent learning methods, time allocation, etc., so that students can complete the transition from middle school to university more quickly. For individual students in need, the college arranges senior students to study together to improve their shortcomings in a targeted manner. Professors from the faculties may also give lectures and group mentoring. Some students also participate in the professor’s research projects.

My home is in Taipa. Why do I need to live in a college during the first year?

The Residential College is a platform for the “Community and Peer Education” of the University of Macau. Through group living, college students learn to get along with others, expand their social networks, and practice to cooperate with different people. College students who become student leaders can also improve themselves greatly by planning and organizing events.

Can college students help take care of other introverted students?

Resident Tutors (RTs) and Resident Assistants (RAs) will actively help new students on course selection, learning methods, campus life, etc. They also regularly organize activities to promote friendship among college students and enrich the living atmosphere.  Some colleges have mentorship programs, allowing professors to directly communicate and provide consultation with freshmen.  Furthermore, Resident Fellows assist and follow up with students starting from their first year.  When needed, they cooperate with UM’s student counseling center to care for students (including emotional support, psychological counseling, career planning, etc.).
