As part of its Mentorship Program, Chao Kuang Piu College  introduced a brand new “Team Project Challenge” activity this academic year.  Year-1 students formed interdisciplinary groups of 3 to 5 people to work on topics related to Macau or contemporary interests.  Each group was assigned a mentor, who was either a CKPC Resident Fellow or a non-resident Fellow/Affiliate from a UM Faculty. The mentor guided the group to search for background materials, establish research goals, develop plans, and complete the opening report in the first semester.

The purpose of this activity is to motivate students through teamwork and improve their academic research, cooperation, and presentation skills.

For this academic year, year-1 students from the six CKPC Planet Tribes formed 40 groups. They chose many interesting topics closely related to the Macau society and the young generation.  Topics range from new technology, diet, health, tourism, fashionable brands, culture and creativity, history, education, infrastructure, urban planning, to the Greater Bay Area. For the summary of the topics, please see this webpage.

From the 40 opening reports presented in early December, the college appraisers (Master and Resident Fellows) selected 12 excellent ones, of which 6 teams became the finalists. Their topics are listed below:

  • 【Venus】On the current situation of Macao’s animal protection institutions
  • 【Jupiter】A study on the inclination and reasons of purchasing trendy brands by Macau’s youth
  • 【Mercury】A spiritual war against the pandemic
  • 【Mars】On the current living status of boat people in Macau
  • 【Saturn】A study on the effectiveness of community organizations in helping the integration of Macau into the Greater Bay Area
  • 【Earth】Exploring the views of young people on following the trend and its causes and effects

These 6 finalists will complete their research reports by March next year and give Team Project Challenge presentations. The three best teams will be selected as winners by a group of appraisers comprising of students and faculty members.

Note: CKPC students are divided into six Planet Tribes based on their block/floor areas.
