淇澳島在珠海市東北部，珠江口內西側，北望南沙和虎門，面積近24平方公里（為澳門半島兩倍半！）。

島上東澳灣古遺址是珠江三角洲最完整的沙石遺址，出土了大量五千年前的彩陶和白陶，是珠海迄今最早人類活動的證據。

島上有始建於宋代的祖廟，明代的天后宮，和清代的文昌宮。北部設紅樹林濕地保護區，淇澳村內的白石街、天后宮、古砲台和蘇兆征故居，是珠海市文物保護單位。

這次活動中院生將實地探索下列課題，並以簡報（連圖片）或短視頻展示研習收穫。

Qi’ao Island is located in the northeastern part of Zhuhai City, on the west side of the Pearl River Estuary, looking north to Nansha and Humen, with an area of nearly 24 square kilometers (two and a half times the size of the Macau Peninsula!).

The ancient site of Dong’ao Bay on the island is the most complete sandstone site in the Pearl River Delta.  There a large number of five-thousand-year-old colored and white ceramics have been unearthed.  They were the earliest evidences of human activities in Zhuhai to date.

On the island, there are the Ancestral Temple built in the Song Dynasty, the Tin Hau Temple in the Ming Dynasty, and the Wen Chang Temple in the Qing Dynasty.  In the north, there is a mangrove wetland protection area, and in Qi’ao Village, Bai Shi Street, Tian Hou Temple, an ancient fort and Su Zhao Zheng’s former residence are Zhuhai’s cultural relics protection units.

In this activity, students will explore the following topics in the field, and present their findings in a presentation (with pictures) or a short video.

Qi’ao Mangrove Reserve is one of the few nature reserves in China that integrates forest, wildlife and wetland ecosystems.

Key Learning Points:

• What is mangrove plant?
• What is the role of mangrove plant in the ecosystem of Qi’ao Island?
• What kind of marine organisms are found in the mangroves in Qi’ao? Which ones have you investigated?
  What are the migratory birds in the reserve? What species have you seen?

從1821年清道光皇帝頒布禁煙令，到1839年钦差大臣林則徐虎門銷煙前，內伶仃島和淇澳島沿海成為鴉片集散地。期間，外國販子與本地村民發生多次衝突，淇澳抗英事件便是其一。

研習重點：

• 淇澳島的古砲台與抗英是否有關？
• 白石街的修築跟抗英勝利有什麼關係？
• 試以實地考察和歷史檔案，還原淇澳抗英事件來龍去脈

From 1821, when Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty issued a ban on opium smoking, to 1839, when Minister Lin Zexu eliminated opium at Humen, the coasts of Inner Lingding and Qi’ao Islands became a distribution center for opium. During this period, there were many conflicts between foreign traders and local villagers, one of which was the Qi’ao Anti-British Incident.

Key Learning Points:

• Are the ancient forts on Qi’ao Island related to the resistance against the British?
• What is the relationship between the construction of Baishi Street and the victory over the British?
• Using fieldwork and historical archives, reconstruct the history of the anti-British events in Qi’ao.

淇澳村白石街一棟富有嶺南特色平房，是中國工人運動傑出領袖蘇兆徵的出生地，全國重點文物保護單位，珠海的紅色地標。

通過陳列館的圖片和實物，了解蘇兆徵的生平故事、事業足跡和奮鬥歷程。

A bungalow on Baishi Street is the birthplace of Su Zhaozheng, an outstanding leader of the Chinese Workers’ Movement.  This is the site of a national key cultural relics protection unit, and a red landmark in Zhuhai.

Through the pictures and artifacts in the museum, learn about Su Zhaozheng’s life story, career and struggles.

走進白石街，感受嶺南文化和市井氣息。

研習考察內容包括：

• 參觀大宗祠/淇澳村史館，和附近的淇澳祖庙（在白石街東北端）
• 採訪文青手工藝店、咖啡店、特色民宿
• 品嚐街兩旁的農家菜和當地小吃（如茶果、雞屎藤膏）

Walk into Baishi Street and experience the Southern China culture and the atmosphere of the marketplace.

Key points for the study tour:

• Visit the Grand Ancestral Hall/Qi’ao Village History Center, and the nearby Qi’ao Ancestral Temple (at the northeast end of Baishi Street)
• Visit the arts and crafts stores, coffee shops, and specialty lodgings
• Taste farmhouse food and local snacks on both sides of the street
