In late October, members of Chao Kuang Piu College Down Syndrome Buddy Group went to the Macau Down Syndrome Association to make yummy food with children, including dessert and taro bubble tea.
Everyone started with a simple warm-up dance. Then members led the Down Syndrome children to cut fruits together, patiently guiding them step by step on how to use the knives, cut mangoes, peel grapefruit, use part of the mangoes and coconut milk to squeeze the juice into the cut fruits, and then they tasted the sweet and delicious dessert together. After steaming the mashed taro, the volunteers showed the children how to add tapioca starch and milk to the steamed taro and sweet potato, knead them like dough to form taro balls, and then distribute them to all the children so that they could knead them with their fingers to form mashed taro balls. The children kneaded and rolled the taro balls and had great fun, just like playing with clay. Finally, they added the cooked taro balls to the milk tea, and a delicious cup of taro bubble tea was ready. During the activity, the children showed their love for the desserts and were excited to taste them.
Through this activity, the children learned how to make yummy desserts. Members of the group are also actively planning for the forthcoming activities. They continue to spread more care and warmth to the children with Down syndrome and share the positive message of Inclusion and peace in our community. We are also looking forward to more interesting activities and closer cooperation in the future.
