The Chao Kuang Piu College Down Syndrome Buddy Group of the University of Macau collaborated with the Macau Down Syndrome Association to host a heartwarming Snowy Mochi Dessert Workshop on the afternoon of 1 November 2025. The event aimed to enrich the lives of participants with Down syndrome through a fun and interactive baking experience that fostered creativity, hand–eye coordination, and social connection.

Before the activity began, volunteers from Chao Kuang Piu College carefully prepared all the ingredients, including glutinous rice flour, whipped cream, Oreo cookies, and fresh fruits, and thoughtfully decorated the venue. As the participants arrived, volunteers led them in cheerful warm-up games to break the ice and create an atmosphere filled with laughter and warmth.

The main session guided participants through each step of making snowy mochi. Using simple, clear instructions paired with live demonstrations, volunteers explained how to measure ingredients, mix and steam the dough, fill it with cream and fruits, and gently seal each piece. Supported by one-on-one guidance, the participants eagerly engaged in every step including mixing, kneading, and shaping their mochi with enthusiasm and focus. Their smiles reflected pride in their creations and delight in the hands-on experience.

After completing their desserts, the participants shared their handmade mochi with family members, filling the room with joy and a sense of accomplishment. The event fostered meaningful interaction and mutual encouragement, deepening emotional bonds among everyone present.

Chao Kuang Piu College Down Syndrome Buddy Group shared that the team will continue to uphold its spirit of service by organizing more diverse and inclusive activities for individuals with Down syndrome. This snowy mochi workshop was not only an opportunity to learn a new skill but also a heartfelt expression of love, care, and community inclusion—showcasing the warmth and compassion at the core of UM’s whole-person education.
