“SDGs Game 2030: The Final Team-building for Student Leaders of CKPC” organized by the Chao Kuang Piu College of the University of Macau, was successfully concluded on November 22, 2023. A total of 25 student leaders participated in this meaningful event, which aimed to summarize the activities of the previous semester and enhance team cohesion. The student leaders demonstrated great energy this year, actively serving and supporting the students of the college.
This event has invited Ruby, the founding president of the Macau Food and Environmental Health Association, to bring a board game called “SDGs Game 2030.” The “2030 Sustainable Development Goals” (SDGs) were announced by the United Nations in 2015, consisting of 17 core goals, including 169 sub-targets and 230 indicators, guiding global collective efforts towards sustainability. Through simulations of various economic, promotional, and consumption activities, it showcases a possible world in 2030.
After Ruby introduced the SDGs and the game rules, each group immediately began playing the game. Each group had its own strategies and tactics, with some choosing to play as bankers and acquiring necessary resources by investing in others’ projects, while others traded money for time after completing a project to achieve personal goals. The game was lively and filled with discussions and negotiations. Some groups had planned approaches to achieve individual goals, while others faced challenges of resource scarcity and finding opportunities. Nevertheless, everyone participated in the game in their own busy ways, just like in real life.
Soon, the first half of the game concluded, and the time shifted to 20XX. The host provided a summary, allowing each group to share their strategies and insights from the game. Many participants expressed that they became aware of the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals during the game and started contemplating how they could contribute to achieving these goals in real life. They discussed topics such as waste reduction, promoting clean energy usage, and improving education and health.
In the second half, Ruby presented challenges that confronted participants with more difficulties and obstacles that could arise in real life, such as natural disasters and economic recessions. These challenges further emphasized the importance of sustainable development and stimulated participants’ creativity and collaborative spirit in seeking solutions. Throughout the entire activity, participants experienced the significance of teamwork through the game. They had to cooperate, communicate, and coordinate with each other to achieve common goals. After the game, a summary and reflection session took place where everyone shared their experiences and lessons learned from the activity.
The successful organization of “SDGs Game 2030: The Final Team-building for Student Leaders of CKPC”, not only strengthened the cohesion and cooperation among the student leaders but also increased their awareness and understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals. This activity provided them with a practical platform for hands-on experience, enabling them to better address the challenges of global sustainable development in their future leadership roles.
