On August 6, 2024, the exhibition on voluntary teaching in Guizhou titled “Sunshine in the Mountains” had an opening ceremony at the Rui Cunha Foundation.  The exhibition was co-organized by the Rui Cunha Foundation and the Chao Kuang Piu College (CKPC), University of Macau. It showcased the fruitful results of volunteer teaching services at Gantuan Mei’e Primary School in Congjiang County, Guizhou over the past six years.

VIP’s attended the ceremony included Mr. Yongxian Li, Deputy Director of Education and Youth Affairs, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, Dr. Rui Cunha, Founder and President of the Rui Cunha Foundation, Ms Eliza Lei, Macau TV and Radio Broadcaster, Senior Host and Program Producer, and Dr. Yun-Tung Lau, Master of Chao Kuang Piu College, University of Macau.

The college students of the Volunteer Teaching Team have established a deep relationship with the children in Guizhou.  They have also personally experienced the continued development and progress in Guizhou’s rural areas. The exhibition provided an opportunity for the public to understand the lives of children in the mountains, as well as the sacrifices and gains of the volunteers over the years.

The VIPs then presided over the ribbon-cutting, and the docents led them to view the exhibition, which included photos taken by the members of the Volunteer Teaching Team, letters from Guizhou children and their handicrafts.  Following the opening ceremony, the premiere of the documentary “Sunshine in the Mountains” was shown. Subsequently, the founding leader of the Volunteer Teaching Team, its current leader, and Master Lau shared their experiences from volunteer teaching in Guizhou.

As the first public event of the 10th anniversary of Chao Kuang Piu College, the exhibition will last until August 10, allowing more people to learn about children in remote mountainous areas and feel the enthusiasm of college students providing social services.
