On the morning of April 18, 2026, the Down Syndrome Buddy Group of Chao Kuang Piu College held a fun carnival on campus, inviting children with Down syndrome (affectionately known as “Tang babies”) and their families from the Macau Down Syndrome Association to the University of Macau. The event allowed them to experience rock climbing and participate in various fun sports activities, helping them discover the joy of outdoor exercise.
On the day of the event, group members arrived early at the sports complex to briefly learn about rock climbing safety precautions. After the Tang babies arrived at the climbing wall, they put on their gear under the instructors’ guidance and experienced rock climbing firsthand. The college group members served as the “cheer squad,” encouraging the Tang babies while also helping to ensure safety in the activity area. After the rock climbing experience, the members led the Tang babies back to the college. Following a short rest, the group prepared a variety of fun games for them at Athena Square, including Magic Brush Flower, Hula Hoop Challenge, Pot Throwing Challenge, Three-Legged Race, Ping Pong Ball Relay, Cup Stacking Challenge, and Color Bean Sorting. They guided the Tang babies and their families in a stamp-collecting activity to exchange for commemorative gifts.
The College Master came to the event to show support, presenting commemorative prizes to the grand prize-winning family after the stamp-collecting activity. On behalf of the college, he also presented a University of Macau 45th-anniversary souvenir to the Macau Down Syndrome Association. Afterwards, the college prepared a rich Portuguese feast in the canteen and invited the Tang babies to enjoy lunch together.
This service marked the final activity of the college’s Down Syndrome Buddy Group for this academic year. Over the past two semesters, with the joint efforts of the group members, they have successfully organized many game-based, food-based, and craft-based activities. In the future, the group will continue to optimize event preparations, bringing more warmth and companionship to the Tang babies.
